Central serous retinopathy csr

This condition occurs when fluid leaks in the retina and causes retinal swelling, which results in blurred or distorted vision. In some cases, a gray spot in the central vision may be seen.

CSR is idiopathic which means that its cause is unknown. However, there have been some correlations with the following:

Stress- has been diagnosed in type A personality

High blood pressure

Higher levels of Cortisol and Epinephrine in the blood than normal

Use of Corticosteroid medicine

CSR affects men more often then women and usually occurs between the ages of 20 and 55, and occurs at a rate of 6-10 times more than women. Central serous retinopathy resolves spontaneously on its own within 3 to 4 months, with 80-90% full recovery to normal visual acuity. There is a 40-50% chance that the condition can recur in the same eye, or in the other eye. There is a 10% chance that vision may not return to normal due to the damaged cells.

In cases where visual recovery is delayed or recurred, laser treatment may be required to seal the leak and help improve the vision. The best treatment is to reduce stress level and to visit your eye doctor for follow up exams.
